Volunteering:
You can make a difference in someone's life by volunteering for the ECDC/African Community Center. There are many simple ways in which you can help that will make an impact :
On Call Driving:
Assist refugees by simply driving them to medical appointments, or take people to apply for Colorado ID's and Social Security cards. ACC's volunteer coordiantor will provide you with information and guidance!
Become a Refugee Mentor:
Teach a refugee client how to use computers, access the
Internet, apply to college, or simply answer questions about American lifestyles. Help a teenage or young adult refugee feel better connected to American society by being a friend and mentor. You can help newcomers build confidence and self-sufficieny by showing a family or an individual simple tasks like going taking the bus, doing grocery shopping, finding the library or setting up an email account…
Moving/Apartment Set-up:
Assist ACC staff in preparing a new familiy's apartment. Move furniture, decorate, stock the refrigerator or do shopping to purchase items for newcomers.
Rent an apartment to the refugees:
Find out about the advantages of renting a place to our
clients with our housing brochure.
Employment:
Help prepare a client for a new job. Assist in teaching a refugee how to fill out a job application or prepare for an interview.
Personal Contacts:
Help us find employment opportunities with your personal contacts.
Office Help/Special Events:
Help at special events or work in a variety of areas at the office or in our Safari Seconds Thrift Store. Office assistance is crucial to our work and is also a great way to share interactions with ACC clients and staff!
In-kind Donations:
Our agency relies largely on the generosity of individuals and corporate donors to furnish apartments for newly arrived clients. These donors provide us with new and used items in good condition. In-kind goods always needed needed include: Tables, Chairs, Couches, Lamps, Kitchen items, Baby items, Gently used or new linens, Towels, Cleaning supplies, toiletries, toothbrushes and food. Gift Certificates to purchase these items are ALWAYS appreciated!!
ACC can pick up donations! Our drivers are available from 10am-6pm Tuesdays and Thursdays to come to your home and pick up your larger donations.
Please note: Because we are a small agency, we cannot accept items in need of repair, sleeper sofas or waterbeds. Also, we cannot generally pick up items outside the Denver metro area.
Financial contribution :
Financial contributions to ECDC/African Community Center are always more than welcome. Your contribution will support program activities as well as assist refugees directly. The Ethiopian Community Development Council, Inc is a tax-exempt 501(c) (3) organization and your donation is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Please ask us for a form to fill out for tax purposes.
